Fiber Optic Gyroscopes & Lasers Lead Market Segments

The competitive polarization-maintaining (PM) fiber market is expected to grow over the next five years at rates between 5% to 12% depending on the market segment, but there's a lot more to the market than a growth forecast. Before you put your project out for bid or invest in new PM fiber product development, it pays to get the whole picture. This newly updated PM Fiber Market report was written by an analyst with three decades of fiber market experience and a finger on the market's pulse today.

Fiber optic gyroscopes (FOG) make up just one segment of the PM fiber market, but it is a big one. FOGs are critical components in many navigation systems, with applications ranging from aircraft and spacecraft to guided missiles, and from remotely operated and autonomous vehicles to broader industrial applications. It is forecasted that by 2024, the laser market segment will surpass the gyroscope market segment in terms of market share.

If you and your organization are involved in any PM market segment and you need to control polarization, increase system efficiency, and rein in costs, you can benefit from the information in this report.

The five segments that make up the PM fiber market are:

  • Fiber Optic Gyroscopes
  • Test and Measurement
  • Lasers
  • Telecommunications Components
  • Sensors — Non-Gyro

Seven Key Components of This Report

  • Projected size of the PM fiber market by segment through 2024 in dollars and kilometers

About the Author

David Krohn founded EOTec Corporation in 1979 to manufacture specialty fiber, sensors, cables, cable assemblies, and data links. He was the CEO there until the business was acquired by 3M in 1987. From 1987 to 1998, he was general manager of the 3M Specialty Optical Fiber business that included the Bragg Grating Technologies business acquired from UTC in 1995. He started the Photonic (Fiber Optic) Sensor Consortium which today has more than 60 participating companies and organizations.

As the photonics marketplace has radically changed over the past several years, David has worked with a number of companies to diversify into nontelecommunications markets, including military, homeland security, biomedical and green energy areas such as alternative energy sources and solid state lighting.
